Lake Humantay

Vinicunca or Rainbow Mountain

Vinicunca, the beautiful Rainbow Mountain, stands proudly in Peru’s Vilcanota mountain range. Thanks to climate change, its stunning colors have become more visible, making it a popular day trek from Cusco at an impressive 5,200 meters above sea level.

Inca Trail

The Classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is an amazing journey that lets you experience the history and beauty of paths once walked by the Incas. This trail, called Qhapaq Ñan, is part of a larger network that covers over 30,000 kilometers across South America.  While only a small, well-preserved section is open to visitors, it provides a wonderful opportunity to learn about the rich culture of the Incas.

Over four days, you’ll hike 43 kilometers, enjoying stunning views that include lush cloud forests and impressive Inca ruins. Your adventure begins at km 82, where you will cross the Vilcanota River. We recommend taking a moment to enjoy the stunning views of Apu Veronica, a beautiful snow-capped peak. On the second day, you will face the challenge of climbing Dead Woman’s Pass, reaching an impressive altitude of 4,200 meters. 

The breathtaking views from the top will make it all worthwhile! On the third day, you will explore amazing archaeological sites like Runcuracay and Phuyupatamarca. You will end the day at the Wiñay Wayna campsite, close to the lovely ruins that share its name. On your final day, an early wake-up call will give you the chance to witness the sunrise at Machu Picchu.

This will leave you plenty of time to discover this incredible citadel before heading back to Cusco. To make the most of this trek, it’s important to prepare well.  Only 500 people are allowed, including guides, porters, and visitors. So,  be sure to book your space in advance, some people even book it 6 months before! 


If you’re short on time, the 2-Day Inca Trail is a wonderful option! You’ll start your adventure in Ollantaytambo, the Sacred Valley where you can hop on a train to Km 104.  From there, you’ll hike to the Inca Trail checkpoint at Chachabamba. Although this version is shorter, no worries as you’ll still see the amazing views that take you to the beautiful archaeological site of Wiñay Wayna before you arrive at the Sun Gate.

 It’s a special moment when you catch your first glimpse of Machu Picchu! On the second day, you’ll enjoy a guided tour of Machu Picchu. You’ll also have the chance to explore the citadel or take a hike up Huayna Picchu before heading back to Cusco.
