The journey features stunning scenery, including snowy peaks, waterfalls, and the sounds of birds. Upon reaching the lagoon, you’ll have about an hour to relax, enjoy snacks, and take pictures of the incredible landscape.

Llanganuco Lakes
You can find this beautiful group of lakes also in Huaraz, called Peru’s Trekking Capital. Huaraz is so special thanks to its geography, as it’s located in the middle of the beautiful “Cordillera Blanca”, or white mountain range.
This group of mountains features 17 peaks that rise over 6,000 meters and boasts more than 500 lakes, making it a perfect spot for trekking. One of the highlights is the stunning Laguna de Llanganuco, where two lovely lakes are nestled among majestic mountains.
Llanganuco consists of twin lakes, Chinancocha, and Orconcocha. Chinancocha, known as the “female lagoon,” and Orconcocha as the male one. Both sit at the base of Huascarán, Peru’s tallest mountain. Its turquoise waters reflect the impressive peaks around it. Orconcocha, might require a bit more effort to reach, but the peaceful beauty it offers is absolutely worth it.
Lake Humantay
Humantay Lake is the breathtaking turquoise lagoon nestled in the Cusco region, sitting at more than 4,000 meters above sea level. It’s beautifully surrounded by the majestic Humantay and Salkantay mountains.

Sandoval Lake
We have our list first lake that isn’t in the Andes, actually is in the heart of the jungle rainforest. The Lake Sandoval is located in the Tambopata National Reserve, in the Madre de Dios department. This lake is one of the most stunning destinations in the Peruvian Amazon, as palm trees and over 6,500 species of fish surround it, offering a unique experience for nature lovers.
In its 3,000 square kilometers, you can enjoy boat rides to take in the scenery and wildlife, such as caimans and turtles, or go on guided hikes through the jungle. A must-see stop is Monkey Island, where these playful animals freely interact with visitors.
To reach Lake Sandoval, you need to travel to Puerto Maldonado, take a boat along the Madre de Dios River, and then hike for about an hour. A visit to Lake Sandoval will immerse you in the tranquility and biodiversity of the Peruvian jungle, with experiences like night hikes and panoramic views from a hanging bridge.
Ausangate’s 7 Lagoons
