And though new information has surfaced that may have discarded her theories, Maria Reiche\u2019s discoveries turned archaeology itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over 1,000 figures carved in the Nazca pampas exist, and a study carried out by Yamagata University in Japan discovered 143 geoglyphs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This research group analyzed high-resolution 3D data using IBM\u2019s Artificial Intelligence technology and managed to categorize them by size.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">But what was the purpose of these geoglyphs?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Even though the site has been explored for many years, we don\u2019t have a concrete definition of the purpose it might have held during the pre-Columbian era.
