For thousands of years, this site has had a great spiritual significance. It attracts both spiritual seekers and those curious about its mysteries.

We invite you to join us in exploring what Aramu Muru truly means and discover why it should be on your Peru bucket list.

What exactly is?

Aramu Muru is a rock-carved doorway located in the Hayu Marca (“Stone Forest”) area overlooking Lake Titicaca, southern Peru.

This door is situated at 4,000 meters above sea level in Puno, Peru. Although this site is considered a part of the Lupaca culture, later, it became part of the Inca Empire.

Resembling a gate or portal, the origins and purpose of Aramu Muru remain unknown. The structure features a large façade with a 2-meter-wide “doorway” at its center.

Within this niche, a small circular recess suggests that a disc may have been placed there, although there is no indication that it serves as an entrance.

This amazing site has a huge rock formation that looks like a big wall. It has a central portal surrounded by hollow columns.

The portal displays angled impressions thought to have been used for resting arms while kneeling. In the center, there’s a small circular dip that lines up with the forehead’s height. Some believe this spot connects to the “third eye” in shamanic or ritual practices.

The Discovery

A local Puno climber, Luis Delgado Mamani, discovered this peculiar site in the early 90’s. In the middle of nature, he stumbled upon this huge rock wall.

Besides his amazement, what drew his attention was that the all surface was adorned with a small tomb. The flat stone found measures about 23 square feet (over two meters) and features a T-shaped niche that stands around 6 feet 6 inches tall.

While the purpose of this space is still a mystery, many believe it could be an unfinished Inca construction project.

Locals have a special name for this fascinating structure: they call it the “Gate of Hayu Marca” or the “Gate of the Gods.” It’s wonderful to see how this site sparks curiosity and pride in the community!

Do you dare to discover the history behind the legend?

The Legend

Known as Amaru Muru or the Stellar Gate, this enigmatic doorway has inspired many local legends. Many stories recount mysterious disappearances and supernatural encounters.

Locals even speak of a hidden entrance, believed to be an underground temple where ancestral encounters and mystical experiences occur due to the energy of electromagnetic fields.

Travelers who touch the smaller portal often feel energy flowing through them. They also report strange visions, like stars, columns of fire, and amazing, otherworldly music.

The popular legend states that in the 16th century, just after the Spaniards conquered the Tahuantinsuyo, an inca priest called Aramu Muru, along with a priestess, escaped from these conquerors.

Both were carrying a solar disk and finally reached this site. These sacred golden disk was highly valued by the Incas, as they had the power to transport people to other dimensions. Therefore, the priest used it, so he and the priestess left this world to visit another different one.

Likewise, ancient historic data, or even locals, like Delgado Mamani, claimed that by the time conquerors arrived in this area, people used to worship this door.

However, Spaniards started to spread a heathen superstition, saying that this door has demonic powers. Consequently, they called it “the devil’s door.”

Many people visit the portal today, excited to discover its secrets. According to legend, the door opens for those who are ready to connect with the spirit of Lake Titicaca.

Additionally, they say that one day the Aramu Muru door will be open, and the god will be released riding their solarships

This stunning doorway, shaped like a strong stone arch, stands about 23 feet wide and 22 feet high, framed by a sturdy rectangle that makes it around 28 feet tall. It’s a wonderful place that encourages everyone to explore their own spiritual journey.

Do you dare to check it out?

The Aramu Muru site adds even more complexity and mystery to Peru and its culture.
