When discussing the punk movement, people often mention legendary bands such as the Sex Pistols, Ramones, or The Stooges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, what if I told you that one of the earliest punk bands\u2014possibly the first\u2014came not from London or New York, but from <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.viajesmachupicchu.travel\/en\/lima-the-capital-of-peru\/\" title=\"\">Lima<\/a><\/strong>, Peru?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you haven\u2019t met them yet, we introduce the first proto-punk band in the world,  \u201cLos Saicos\u201d, a wild, rebellious band from the 1960s that played loud, aggressive music decades ahead of its time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Join us as we see their story, one of youthful defiance, unexpected fame, and a legacy that continues to grow.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Birth of a Revolutionary Sound<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Firstly, Los Saicos (pronounced &#8220;Los Psychos&#8221;) was formed in 1964 in the Lince district of Lima, Peru. They weren\u2019t trying to sound like The Beatles or The Rolling Stones. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead, they screamed, howled, and played loudly, creating a sound that wouldn\u2019t fully emerge in North America or the U.K. until a decade later. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jokingly, Flores stated that his mother thought he was possessed, as he screamed loudly while performing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Name That Stuck<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Originally, they wanted to call themselves &#8220;Los S\u00e1dicos&#8221; (The Sadists), but they felt it was a bit too extreme. Soon, they were invited to perform on El Show de Diana, one of Peru\u2019s biggest music shows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>&#8220;Demolici\u00f3n&#8221;: The First Punk Anthem?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">In 1965, Los Saicos released their most famous song: &#8220;Demolici\u00f3n.&#8221; The song starts with pounding drums and a fast, distorted guitar riff. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">The track was loud, raw, and full of rebellious energy. Also, it felt almost dangerous, which was exactly why fans loved it. is considered one of the greatest rock songs ever recorded in Latin America, and some even call it the first true punk song in history. &#8220;Demolition&#8221; is used as an anthem for political protests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>More Hits, Then an Abrupt End<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Between 1965 and 1966, Los Saicos released six singles, each packed with raw energy:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Demolici\u00f3n&#8221; However, despite their rising fame, the band broke up in 1966. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Later, the members moved on with their lives, thinking their time in music was over. They said that they never disbanded; it was just that they chose different ways. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, Flores is a successful entrepreneur, Guevara is involved in the construction business, and Castrillon is a retired musician. Unfortunately, Carpio died before the band\u2019s comeback.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Unexpected Comeback<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2010, surviving members Erwin Flores, C\u00e9sar Castrill\u00f3n, and Francisco Guevara reunited for a series of concerts in Spain and Argentina, proving that Los Saicos\u2019 music still had the same raw energy more than 40 years later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately, Guevara passed in 2015; since then, Los Saicos have been performing sporadically around Argentina, Peru, and Spain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Want to Experience Los Saicos\u2019 Lima?
